Lots of people seem to think that atheists believe what they do out of their own interest or to “rebel”. Basically, they think that atheists disregard belief in God because they “want” to. I’ll admit that a lot of teenagers probably do think that way, but I think that’s nonsensical.
Atheism isn’t a belief based on what we want to think is true. It’s the exact opposite, and the same applies to Christians, in a way. Think about it—if you’re a Christian, do you believe in Zeus? Of course not, and rightly so! However, is it because you don’t want to? Of course not. It’s because you have no reason to believe in him, and we’re doing the same with your God.
I firmly believe that there is no spiritual being surrounding us at all times. Personally, I’m thankful of this, as that would creep me the fuck out. But does that mean that all atheists are glad there’s no God? Not at all. It’s quite possible that some atheists are depressed because they think there’s no God! “Atheist” means nothing more than a lack of a belief in God. We cannot all be lumped together into one group. And even though I am glad that there is no God, I’m not choosing to be atheist because this makes me comfortable. I’m doing it because that’s the obvious answer to me.
I wish more people would base their beliefs off of something other than what they want.
